Lancaster Livestock Auction: Lancaster Weekly Sale of Prime Hoggs, Cast Ewes & Sheep with Lambs at Foot, Monday 27th April 2026.

SPRING LAMBS

Numbers rising each week and easily sold to an ever increasing level of buyers demand. A top price of 522p/kg & £220 was achieved by S Wilson & Son, Scotforth with others selling to 515p/kg & £210 from KA Purtill, Wigan. All Lambs forward today averaged 462p/kg & £199.76.

Next week to include prize show for best pair of Spring Lambs

PRIME HOGGS

Many vendors coming to the end of their season and looking ahead to spring lambs or shutting up for cropping. Standard weights and well finished in keenest demand with a market SQQ of 384p/kg.

Best of the sale today was a pen of Beltex cross from KA Purtill, Wigan selling at 469p/kg with others 450p/kg from T & E Burrow, Slyne. Standard weights generally 395p/kg to 430p/kg, heavy weights to 435p/kg from RJ Byron, Woodplumpton. Top price today of £228 from RJ Byron, Woodplumpton who sold other pens at £227, £227, £224 & £222. Another notable consignment from T Taylor, Woodplumpton sold to £224 with other pens £222, £222 & £218. Heavyweight Hoggs generally £195 to £215. Standards to £200 for Texel cross from SH & LE Birkett, Nether Kellet. Hill bred Hoggs saw Cheviots sell to £200 & 426p/kg, Mules £185 & 386p/kg, SBF £173 & 360p/kg, Herdwicks £154 & 395p/kg.

CULL SHEEP

Ewes maintaining the prices of recent sales, peaking at £228 for first cross Texels from S Wilson & Son, other mediums generally £185 to £210. Mules to £190, heavies £175 to £188 and mediums £150 to £175. Hill ewes to £138 for Swaledales and £124 Herdwicks.

BREEDING SHEEP

Plenty of interest in the sale of sheep with lambs at foot with buyers keen to return next week which will include a show & sale of Hoggs with lambs at foot.

Today’s sale peaked at £430 for 3 crop Texel cross ewes with Twins from CD & HL Mason who sold others at £415 & £400 and aged ewes with Twins to £365. Cheviot cross ewes with Twins from Stockdale Farms sold at £350 with aged Continentals £330 from T Sharp and 4 crop Mules £330 NA Allen.

Singles to £390 for 2 crop Texels with Texel cross Lambs from SJ & AL Hargreaves, Cheviot cross £305 for Stockdale Farms and aged Mules £300 NA Allen.

Several pen of Shearlings forward today with Texels with Singles from SJ & AL Hargreaves selling to £370.

Suffolk cross with Twin Texel lambs £350 from S Ashcroft, Euxton, and Cheviot Mules with Singles from W Pinder selling to £290.

Sheep with Lambs at foot will continue to be sold on a Monday throughout May.
